IP-UniLink was a project co-financed by the European Union's Erasmus Mundus Programme, under Action 4 ‘Enhancing Attractiveness’. This programme area funds “Projects seeking to establish links between higher education and research, and between higher education and business and to exploit, whenever possible, potential synergies.”
The main aim of IP-UNILINK was to promote EU Intellectual Property (IP) management practices to facilitate RTD and university-industry links with BRIC (Brazil, Russia, India, China) countries. The project centred on the increasing importance of BRIC countries as emerging strategic partners and associates for Europe.
The main project outputs include:
- Analysis and report on MACRO level cooperation factors: "Trends in R&D Cooperation among EU and BRIC countries’ Higher Education Institutions". The report presents valuable information for Higher Education Institutions, researchers and policy makers from EU and BRIC regarding the trends in cooperation among EU and BRIC HEIs, showing the main R&D cooperation programmes and organizations on EU, BRIC and EU member states level, and analyzing aspects and experiences gathered through interviews conducted by the consortium partners.
- Analysis and report on MICRO level cooperaiton factors: "A Comparative Analysis of Institutional Innovation and IP Policies, Strategies and Practices". This document shows the legal and political framework for IP management in EU and BRIC HEIs, as well as concrete examples on how IP Management is addressed in EU and BRIC HEIs in practice. The document is a resource of ideas for Higher Education Institutions to improve their IP management practices and aims to enhance transparency and mutual understanding of IP management regimes, institutional policies and strategies.
- Good Practice Gudelines: "How proactive Intellectual Property management can improve research collaborations Good Practices in EU and BRIC Higher Education Institutions". In two main sections, this report combines information on (I) legal and political framework that governs scientific research cooperation and intellectual property rights in EU and BRIC countries, with (II) practical examples and recommendations for how to manage intellectual property rights in R&D cooperation, with special focus on higher education institutions.
